Donna Carter is a Wedgewoodian and a professional, as in paid, comedian. Get ready to laugh your head off.
The way traditional churches condemn gays and lesbians it's a miracle any time a homosexual walks into a sanctuary of a church. At Wedgewood we want gay and lesbian Christians to be aware of organizations which affirm them.
Most seminary students upon graduation look for traditional places of church employment. Imagine a group of seminary graduates who decide to plant themselves in the middle of poverty. Pretty impressive indeed! Take the time to get to know Hyaets and volunteer your time, talent and money. http://hyaets.org/index1024.html
Koinonia is a Christian community started by Jordan which continues to this day. Millard Fuller, founder, of Habitat for Humanity, was deeply influenced by Jordan and Koinonia. Clarence Jordan's legacy is not only that he was prophetic on race relations, but also includes his challenge to Christians to be a part of a radical faith community.
Steve Ayers, (much older) brother of Wedgewood's pastor, is the pastor of McGill Baptist Church. McGill was thrown out of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention for baptizing two gay men.
Wedgewood was the first Baptist church in North Carolina to be certified as a wildlife habitat. Certification was obtained through the North Carolina Wildlife Federation. The mission of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation is to be the leading advocate for all North Carolina wildlife and its habitat.
Another Baptist group which welcomes and affirms people regardless of their sexual orientation is Rainbow Baptists. http://www.rainbowbaptists.org
